I'm really bad about trolling CL when there is really no reason to buy more parts. So of course I run across these recently and did some data collection before purchasing. I know what 2nd hand turbos mean, and for the price, was willing to take the gamble. The absolute worst case scenario in my mind is that the CHRAs both need to be replaced with HKS-Garrett units. One Z shop (I won't name them) said you can use a 2860RS CHRA (costs less) and swap the HKS compressor wheel onto the assembly. A 2nd Z shop said that it would be a bad idea to combine a compressor wheel with a different CHRA, even if a turbo shop attempted to re-balance them as their equipment isn't nearly as accurate or precise as Garrett's. It'd probably work for some amount of time, but who knows how much. It should be noted that neither turbo seems to have a significant amount of shaft play or visual signs of compressor wheel damage. My long term plan was to take the housings off, clean up the compressor side, and then have the exhaust side coated (swain or techline or polydyne?).
